Stroller rental at Schiphol Airport

This page explains how renting a stroller at Schiphol Airport works — where the handover happens, how long it takes, what it costs and how to plan it around a flight with a tired child. It is written for families flying into Amsterdam who would rather not drag their own stroller through check-in, baggage belts and a gate-check trolley.

We hand over strollers at Schiphol every week, so the details below come from the actual routine at Arrivals rather than from a brochure. Rent-a-Stroller only operates two handover points — Schiphol and Amsterdam Central — which is exactly why the airport process is quick and predictable.

Rent from €16.95 / day · Most families rent 3–5 days · Free to reserve · cancel free up to 24h.

Pickup & drop-off: handovers happen at Schiphol Airport or Amsterdam Central Station only.

Why families rent at the airport rather than fly with their own

The stroller you own is usually perfect at home and awkward on a plane. It has to be folded at the gate, loaded onto a belt or trolley, and it reappears somewhere between the aircraft door and the oversize baggage hall. Meanwhile you are carrying a child, hand luggage and a passport wallet.

Renting at Schiphol removes that whole segment. You walk off the aircraft with the child in your arms or in a carrier, clear passport control, collect your bags, and the stroller is waiting at the far end — clean, unfolded and adjusted. The trip starts at the point where it usually starts going wrong.

It is not the right choice for everyone. If you are staying for three weeks, are attached to your own seat insert, or travel with a car seat that clicks into your own frame, bringing your own may still make more sense. We would rather tell you that here than sell you something you do not need.

A quick sanity check

If your trip is roughly three to fourteen days and you are flying with hand luggage plus one hold bag, renting almost always leaves you with less to carry and less to worry about.

Where the handover happens at Schiphol

Schiphol has a single terminal building with four arrival halls, all of which funnel down into Schiphol Plaza — the public concourse between the arrival halls and the train station. That is where we meet you. Because Plaza sits beneath the arrival halls, it does not matter which hall your flight lands in: the walk converges at the same place.

After you book, you receive the exact meeting spot in your confirmation email, together with the name and phone number of the host on duty that day. The spot is chosen so you can park a luggage trolley beside it without blocking the walkway, and so it is easy to describe over the phone if you get turned around.

From the meeting point it is a two-minute walk to the train platforms below, and about five minutes to the taxi and bus lanes outside. If you are heading straight to a hotel in the centre, the direct train to Amsterdam Central takes around 15–20 minutes and runs several times an hour.

  • All arrival halls (1–4) lead down to Schiphol Plaza — one meeting area for every flight
  • Lifts and ramps throughout, so a loaded trolley is never a problem
  • Train platforms two minutes away, taxi rank about five
  • Host phone number included in your confirmation email

Timing it around your flight

The most common planning mistake is booking the handover for the moment the aircraft touches down. Between landing and Schiphol Plaza you still have taxiing, disembarking, the walk through the terminal, passport control if you arrive from outside Schengen, and the baggage belt.

As a rule of thumb, allow around 45 minutes after a Schengen landing and 75 to 90 minutes after a non-Schengen landing before you realistically reach Plaza with your bags. Choose your pickup slot with that buffer built in — you can always wait a few minutes with a coffee, whereas arriving an hour late is stressful for everyone.

Pickup slots are one-hour windows, so there is room for the ordinary variation of air travel inside them. If your flight number is on the booking, we watch it and adjust before you have to ask.

Typical timings from wheels down

  • Schengen arrival, hand luggage only: 25–35 minutes to Plaza
  • Schengen arrival with hold bags: 40–55 minutes
  • Non-Schengen arrival with hold bags: 70–95 minutes

What you actually receive

Every stroller leaves our workshop cleaned, disinfected and safety-checked, with the brake, harness, fold latch and wheels signed off by the person who prepared it. Read the full hygiene and safety checklist if you want the detail.

We rent two models. The Explorer is a 7.8 kg travel stroller that folds to cabin-baggage size and handles cobbles and tram tracks without drama — the right choice for most trips. The Comfort 3-in-1 suits newborns and families who want a carrycot or car-seat configuration; the first module is included and additional modules are charged per day.

Rain covers, footmuffs, cup holders and other extras are optional. Amsterdam weather being what it is, the rain cover is the one most families are glad they added.

What it costs and how payment works

Rental starts at €16.95 per day, with a refundable deposit held on your card rather than charged. There is no airport surcharge for collecting at Schiphol: the daily rate is the daily rate, and your total is shown in full before you confirm anything.

Nothing is taken when you submit a request. Our team checks the stroller is genuinely available for your dates, confirms by email, and only then do you complete the payment and signature step in one place. That order matters — you are never paying for something we have not yet verified.

Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before pickup. If plans change earlier than that, one email is all it takes.

  • From €16.95 per day, no airport surcharge
  • Refundable deposit held, not charged
  • Full total shown before you confirm
  • Free cancellation up to 24 hours before pickup

Returning the stroller before you fly home

You can hand the stroller back at Schiphol or at Amsterdam Central Station, whichever fits your departure better. Many families collect at the airport and return in the city on the morning of their flight, or the other way round.

Returns take about five minutes. We check the stroller over with you, release the deposit hold and that is the end of it. Normal wear from a week of city streets is expected and is not charged for; genuine damage is discussed openly rather than deducted silently.

Plan the return the same way you planned the pickup: before security, not after. Once you are through security there is no way back out to Plaza.

Common mistakes worth avoiding

A few patterns come up again and again, and all of them are easy to sidestep once you know about them.

The first is booking the return for a slot that sits after check-in closes. The second is forgetting that a deposit hold needs an actual card with headroom on it — a prepaid travel card sometimes will not accept the hold. The third is assuming a same-day request will be fine in April or during school holidays, when demand is highest.

None of these are dramatic. They are simply the three things that turn a smooth handover into a phone call.

  • Book the return before check-in closes, not after security
  • Bring a card that can carry the refundable deposit hold
  • Reserve ahead during spring, summer and school holidays
  • Add your flight number so we can track delays for you

When to just ask us

Some situations do not fit a booking form: arriving at 06:00 on a long-haul, travelling with twins, needing a carrycot for a six-week-old, or splitting a rental across two families. Those are all workable, but they are easier to arrange in a short email than through a dropdown.

Write to reservations@rentastroller.nl with your dates and we will tell you honestly whether we can help. If we cannot, we will say so — sending a family to the airport on a promise we cannot keep helps nobody.

Frequently asked

Where exactly do I collect the stroller at Schiphol?

In the public Arrivals area of Schiphol Plaza, one level below the arrival halls. After you confirm your booking you receive the precise meeting spot and the phone number of the host who will be waiting for you.

How long does the handover take?

Usually five to ten minutes. We adjust the harness for your child, show you the fold and the brake, hand over any extras and note the condition together. There is no paperwork queue.

What happens if my flight is delayed?

Send us your flight number when you book and we track it. For delays of up to a few hours we simply move the handover; if the delay pushes you outside our opening hours we agree a new slot for the next morning.

Can I collect at Schiphol and return in the city?

Yes. You can return at Amsterdam Central Station instead of Schiphol at no extra cost — choose your drop-off point during booking.

Do I need to bring anything to the handover?

Your booking reference and a payment card for the refundable deposit hold. Nothing else. A photo of the reference on your phone is fine.

Is there a stroller waiting if I book on the day itself?

Sometimes, but we cannot promise it. Same-day requests depend on what is back from cleaning and inspection. Booking a day or two ahead is the reliable route.

Can someone else pick the stroller up for me?

Yes, as long as you tell us their name in advance and they bring the booking reference. This is common for families arriving on separate flights.

In short

Renting at Schiphol works because the handover sits in the one place every arriving passenger already walks through. Build in a realistic buffer after landing, add your flight number, bring a card for the deposit hold, and the stroller is simply there when you emerge with your bags.

If you are still weighing it up, the step-by-step overview of how rental works covers the whole process from request to return.
