Your everyday stroller is the wrong size here
American strollers are engineered for wide sidewalks, mall doors and a car trunk. Amsterdam gives you 70 cm shop doorways, stairs inside old buildings, trams with a step, and cobbles that shake a heavy frame apart.
A narrow European travel stroller fits the tram doors and the café aisle. The Explorer is 7.8 kg (about 17 lb), folds small enough for the cabin, and still rolls over setts — €17.95 a day, roughly $19 depending on the day's rate.
Landing after an overnight flight
Most US flights land at Schiphol between 07:00 and 11:00. Handover happens at the airport inside a one-hour window between 09:00 and 20:00, so the stroller is waiting when you are least capable of assembling anything.
From Schiphol, the direct train reaches Amsterdam Central in about 17 minutes. There is no need for a car — and no car seat problem, because you will not be driving. If you are heading somewhere by road, an infant car seat is available as an add-on.
What to skip checking
Airlines carry strollers free, but on a long-haul itinerary with a connection it is one more item to gate-check twice, and gate-check damage is the single most common way a trip starts badly.
Renting also covers the equipment you would otherwise buy for two weeks and never use again: rain cover €2 a day, travel crib, high chair, and a power bank for the phone that is holding all your tickets.
Practical differences worth knowing
Prices are in euros and include VAT. Most families rent for three to five days; longer stays are common in summer and the daily rate is the same fixed rate, so there is no dynamic-pricing surprise.

- Should we bring our own stroller as a backup?
- You do not need to. If the rental has any problem during your stay we swap it — that is the point of renting locally rather than repairing a damaged frame in a foreign city.
- Do you have car seats for taxis or a rental car?
- Yes, infant and toddler seats are available as add-ons. Dutch law requires an appropriate restraint for children under 135 cm in a car.
- Is the stroller cabin-approved for our onward European flight?
- The Explorer folds to cabin dimensions for most European carriers, but each airline sets its own limit — check yours. It is a common reason US families rent it for a multi-city trip.
- How do we pay, and in what currency?
- Payment is in euros by card at checkout. Your card issuer handles the conversion; we do not add a currency markup.
